Mary’s December Newsletter (Hope-Filled Living)

November 30, 2020 by Mary

December 1, 2020

Dear Friends,

As I write this December newsletter, I am waiting with anticipation for the glorious celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior! Everything about this season gives us reason to hope as we put up our Christmas trees and hang  garland and wreaths, light candles and watch the twinkling lights. It’s all done in celebration of the King of Kings. He is the twinkle that we see in the lights, the shimmering glow of candles throughout our homes, the gifts under the tree, the garland and wreaths. The round shape of the Christmas wreath is reminiscent of the circle, which symbolizes eternity; an emblem of our everlasting God.

As believers, the Christmas story is the foundation of our faith; the birth of Jesus Christ. It is the beginning of the life and story of Jesus our Messiah, born to a virgin in a lowly stable. The stars lit up the night sky and paved the way through the darkness for people to come see him, pay tribute and worship the newborn king.  And so it is that the Savior of the world was born in a manger, no crib for a bed to a virgin named Mary.

I have a feeling that right now, right where we are–in the midst of a worldwide pandemic and the troubles of mankind, we could all stand to hear the story of the Messiah and the hope that He brings to the world.I have included it for you, here: The Christmas Story Read Aloud

If you want to learn just a bit more about Jesus, the Bible shows us that as a child, Jesus was drawn to the temple to worship His Father in Heaven. Traveling on a pilgrimage with his parents, He disappeared in Jerusalem. After frantically searching for the boy, this is what happened:

“Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.  And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.  And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?  And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” Luke 2:41-52 KJV

I could go on and on sharing with you the stories of the life of Jesus, as I find them so fascinating! Wishing you all the beauty and wonder of Christmas! I pray that you are all safe, healthy and filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Pray continually. Be kind and speak words of hope and life over yourselves and others. Know that this too shall pass and that in due time, we will be beyond this pandemic. I am looking forward to gathering with, hugging, laughing  and breaking bread with our extended families. We are planning a reunion weekend at our house with a celebratory date yet to be determined. Keep hope alive in your hearts, sweet friends.
